Dear Mum A whole package set in glorious countryside. What more could anyone ask for a great day out, long weekend or even longer. Marwell Hotel and Zoo are only 15min from historic Winchester, but seem a world away from the bustle of civilisation, and there are so many other attractions within easy reach. Having a great time Marwell Hotel.
Set in woodland, there is a definite jungle feel to staying in this hotel, a theme continued in the furnishings. Comfortable accommodation is located in pavilions connected by glass enclosed corridors. The airy ‘Zavanna’ restaurant is a pleasant venue for a relaxing meal with a whole range of mouth-watering specialities including local venison and ostrich steaks. To really get into the mood of the setting there’s even an African theme with dry cured biltong on offer. Vegetarians are well catered for too. Family friendly Marwell Hotel offers competitive packages overseen by the very hands-on manager Kishore Seegoolam.

Zoo. Visitors staying at the hotel only have a short stroll to reach the zoo. Some may be disappointed if staying at the hotel but, amazingly, even in the quiet of the night, we didn’t hear the roar of lions.
This is a zoo with a difference, dedicated to the conservation of endangered species. Plenty of wide open space in which the animals move around freely. Get up close to the Giraffes from the new viewing platform and spot the red pandas and snow leopard. Meerkats and monkeys are a constant entertainment whilst the penguins never seem to stay still for long. The zoo also houses the largest collection of hoofed animals in the UK. A small road train runs at 20 minute intervals and there is a restaurant, refreshment kiosks and picnic areas. More than enough entertainment to keep a family absorbed for a few hours.
