Vienna, the city of music, love and gorgeous chocolate cake! What more could anyone wish but, where does the visitor start amidst this plethora of goodies! Help is at hand with a new book entitled ‘Vienna for the Music Lover’. A book not just for the avid music lover but for everyone who wants to absorb the atmosphere and enjoy the musical essence of the city to the full.

The author, David L. Nelson, certainly knows his stuff and, having spent so much time there, Vienna can safely be classed as his second home. His comprehensive knowledge is soon apparent in the logical layout of the book. History isn’t laboured but enough is supplied to paint the necessary background. Museums aren’t in short supply but listing their highlights makes visiting choices much easier. Areas of the city with accompanying street map clearly guide the reader to where composers lived, worked and died. Scattered throughout are anecdotal additions which bring the book to life and lift it onto a higher, but very accessible plane, than most other guide books. The only downside to some may be its sole devotion to music but then again, Vienna’s appeal lies, for many, in its musical connection.
A bible for music aficionados or visitors to Vienna in search of a rewarding experience, regardless of whether they are deeply into music or not. Armed with a smaller, compact general guide book and this excellent guide then visitors are bound to strike the right note.
